McKinney Kiwanis Kids Triathlon

I've competed in a couple indoor triathlons at Lifetime Fitness and when Emily asked about them she was interested in trying one out for herself. So I searched and found that McKinney is the host of 2 Kid Triathlons every year!
She had some fierce competition especially in the swim leg. You can tell there were a lot of trained competition swimmers... I had no idea it was going to be a serious as it was. The swim leg was 100 meters.
She was not a happy camper after the swim but
she pulled it together enough to get ready for the bike ride which would be easier for her.

In transition getting ready for the bike ride.

The bike leg was 2.5 miles.
Leaving transition to start the run leg.
Megan waiting to cheer for her sister!
The run was .5 mile.
I am so very proud of her for taking on the challenge... which was both physical and emotional for her as she broke down crying when it was all over. Not sure she'll put herself thru this again anytime soon but I think she did great finishing in 26:53 and will fully support her if she chooses to TRI again! ;)

Happy 9th Birthday Emily!!

Emily had her 9th Birthday Party at the ice rink... it was super fun! She invited all her little girl friends from school.

Very excited to blow out the candles!

All the girls were really sweet! Erika and Cate were having a tough time staying upright on the ice so all the other girls were willing to lend them a hand.

The Garbage Patch

I can't help but think of this short video when I see plastic in a trash can or when I see people leave the grocery store with a car load of plastic bags. It helps motivate me to make better choices for our planet... hope it does the same for you.

Earth Day

I try really hard to teach the girls and Wayne to Think Green... Wayne may be a hopeless cause (haha) but I am happy to see some of it sinking in to the girls! Megan chose this shirt to wear on Earth Day... we also rode our bikes/scooter to and from school that day to conserve gasoline. :)
What I was even more shocked and proud of was the book she chose at the library that day!
She couldn't wait to read it to me!
